Cormac Ryan signs a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder
After competing in NBA Summer league action with the Oklahoma City Thunder, former UNC basketball standout Cormac Ryan has agreed to a contract with the franchise.
The news was announced by Ryan's agency, Priority Sports. Although the signing was announced, the terms of the deal were not.
Ryan made a steady impact in his lone season in Chapel Hill, averaging 11.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 30.3 minutes per game while shooting 38% from the field and 35% from three-point range. He helped guide the UNC basketball program to an ACC regular season title and a 29-8 overall record.
The former Tar Heel played in seven summer league games for the Thunder, and although he struggled to find his shooting stroke in limited action, his effort on both ends of the floor showed the organization that he should have an opportunity during training camp.
It's very likely that this contract is an Exhibit 10 deal, as the most logical scenario would be for him to be waived before the season to join the Thunder's G-League squad. If he spends at least 60 days with the Blue, he’ll be eligible for an Exhibit 10 bonus worth up to $77.5K on top of his standard G League salary.
In a league where shooting is at a premium, Cormac Ryan could certainly provide a solid 3-and-D player for a team's rotation. As we saw during his time at North Carolina, when Ryan gets hot, he can make a major impact on both ends of the floor.
