As Javion Butts' recruitment started to heat up, it appeared as if the UNC football program and Georgia Tech were battling for his services.

Even though the Gray, Georgia native had some official visits scheduled in a few weeks, his college decision came a lot earlier than anticipated, as Butts has officially committed to North Carolina.

Butts' recent unofficial trips to Chapel Hill seem to have sealed the deal, as this announcement came following his visit to campus this weekend. His previous stop came at the end of February, as he was in the area when the UNC basketball program defeated Duke to capture the ACC regular season title.

The 6-foot, 172-pound safety becomes the seventh player to join the UNC football program's 2025 recruiting class, as the Tar Heels are already ranked among the top 20 classes according to 247Sports. With the addition of Butts, North Carolina should move up in the rankings, as there is plenty of time for Mack Brown and company to rise among the top recruiting classes in the nation.

According to Inside Carolina, North Carolina's defensive backs coach Charlton Warren believes that Butts is a player who could play multiple positions when he arrives in Chapel Hill. Although he's labeled as a safety, the Tar Heels believe he could play both safety positions while also seeing some playing time at star as well.

The recruiting trail for the Class of 2025 continues to heat up, as the UNC football program looks to put together another strong group to help lead the future of the program.
