Another transfer offensive lineman commits to the UNC football program

After losing plenty of depth on the offensive line, the UNC football program needed to add some players at this position heading into the 2024 season.

Mack Brown and his coaching staff attacked the transfer portal in an effort to do so, as the Tar Heels added their fourth transfer offensive lineman of this recruiting cycle.

On X, Jakiah Leftwich announced that he will join the UNC football program. A Georgia Tech transfer, Leftwich will not be able to enroll at North Carolina until the summer, as he's working on graduating this Spring.

A 6-foot-6, 311-pounder, Leftwich was essentially the Yellow Jackets sixth offensive lineman this past season, playing 312 total snaps. In seven games played, Leftwich made four starts, as he was a guy that Georgia Tech used to help fill voids on their offensive line.

Leftwich has some UNC football connections, as he's familiar with the likes of Geoff Collins, Nate McCollum, and Pat Suddes. All three of the above-mentioned Tar Heels were with Georgia Tech at some point during Leftwich's career in Atlanta, as the UNC football program's interest in him shouldn't be surprising given that Collins and Suddes had roles in his original recruitment.

There are still plenty of question marks surround the UNC football program's offensive line, as this new-look unit will feature players with some experience. However, how it shapes up will be an interesting storyline to follow as the spring rolls along, as the main goal will be for the Tar Heels to find the right mix to not only pave the way for star running back Omarion Hampton but to also protect whoever ends up winning the quarterback job.
