After dropping four spots to No. 7 a week ago, the UNC basketball program took another drop this week, falling three spots to No. 10.

The Tar Heels have fallen a total of seven spots over the last two weeks, as they are 2-2 overall in that span. Losses to Clemson and the aforementioned Syracuse loss have impacted their rankings, as they hold on to the final spot among the top 10.

North Carolina was jumped in the rankings by Duke, who the Tar Heels beat a few weeks ago. At this point, it appears that head-to-head doesn't matter to the voters, as it's essentially "what have you done for me lately" type of thing.

Duke has won four straight, but hasn't beaten a quality opponent in that span of time. North Carolina has struggled of late, but still remains a top the ACC standings.

Regardless, as we say every week, two things come into play with these types of rankings.

For starters- it means nothing to the program as a whole. Being "ranked" is a luxury that fans and the media take more seriously than those who actually compete on a daily basis.

Additionally: if you win, the rankings simply take care of themselves. The UNC basketball program hasn't done that over the last few weeks, as its impacted their rankings.

With only one game on the schedule this week, the UNC basketball program will look to pick up a statement win against Virginia, who just missed being ranked this week.
