Amidst the rumors, Mack Brown isn't leaving the UNC football program
Following the UNC football program's embarrassing loss to James Madison on Saturday afternoon, there was plenty of chaos to sort through.
Not only was losing to a Group of 5 opponent bad enough, but fans and media personalities started to speak more about Mack Brown's future with the program. At 73 years old, there's many that believe it's time for the program to move on and look in another direction moving forward.
Inside Carolina heightened those talks with its report, which indicated that Brown told the team he was stepping away following the loss. However, those reports seem to be untrue, as Brown went on to tell ESPN that he isn't planning on resigning.
"I'm not resigning. I'll be back at work Monday."
While the Tar Heels have posted winning records in four of the last five seasons with Brown at the helm, the program hasn't been able to take the next step toward being a national contender. Even with quarterbacks Sam Howell and Drake Maye, both of whom are currently in the NFL, the UNC football program has been essentially a middle of the pack type of team, as they have been consistently mediocre over that span.
On Saturday, the program's issues were all on display, as defensive woes and special teams blunders were at the forefront of the team's 70-50 loss. The loss served as another moment where those who follow the Tar Heels can question whether or not Brown is the right guy to lead the program at this point in his career.
For now, Brown plans on staying put, but the chatter about his future with the program continues to get louder and will oly increase if the UNC football program continues to play like they did on Saturday afternoon.
