Just weeks ahead of the start of the 2024-2025 college basketball season, CBS Sports College Basketball Analyst Jon Rothstein released his list of the top 25 impact freshmen.

To no surprise, the list features two freshmen who will make their UNC basketball debuts this fall: Ian Jackson and Drake Powell

Ian Jackson, North Carolina: A ridiculous offensive talent, Jackson can score from all angles on the court all while giving everything he has on defense. He’ll form an elite perimeter troika for the Tar Heels along with freshman point guard Elliot Cadeau and National Player of the Year candidate RJ Davis.

Jackson is one of the more notable players from the Class of 2024. He is a five-star talent that has lived up to the hype surrounding him thus far, as fans of the UNC basketball program are anxious to see what he can accomplish in Chapel Hill.

Drake Powell, North Carolina: Elite athlete? Check. Elite motor? Check. Strong physical attributes? Powell has that too. 6-7 and explosive, Powell’s tenacity should complement the Tar Heels in the open floor and on defense. This is an intriguing piece to monitor in North Carolina’s rotation.

When you think of the word "underrated," Drake Powell certainly fits the bill. Not many five-star ranked talents fly under the radar as much as Powell has, but there is plenty to love about his overall game. Rothstein pointed out his athleticism, motor and physical attributes as to why he earned a spot on the list, all traits that indicate that he'll be a tremendous fit with the UNC basketball program.

The excitement to see these guys in action for the UNC basketball program is already high, as it will continue to increase as we get even closer to the start of the 2024-2025 college basketball season.
