A HUGE recent boost for the UNC basketball program
One of the main storylines throughout the 2023-2024 season thus far has been the shooting efficiency from Cormac Ryan.
The graduate transfer has had some bright spots, but UNC basketball fans have been wondering when his shots would start to fall more consistently.
Over the last three games, that has certainly been the case.
Coming off a 18-point outing against Virginia on Sunday, Ryan has scored 52 points in the Tar Heels last three contests. He is averaging 17.3 points per game over that span and is earning those points efficiently, knocking down an impressive 51.9% of his three point attempts (14 of 27).
His ability to consistently knock down shots has been crucial, especially in the team's victory over Virginia, a game where he almost outscored the Cavaliers by himself over the first 20 minutes of play.
Shooters go through slumps, as there are going to be times where their shots simply don't fall. For Ryan, the confidence hasn't gone away one bit, as he (and his teammates) still have a ton of faith in him being able to connect, especially from beyond the arc.
When he's making his three point attempts, this UNC basketball team is even more difficult to defend.
With so much attention focused on the likes of Armando Bacot and RJ Davis, there are plenty of opportunities for others to capitalize on some open looks. Ryan has been a player who has benefitted from this, as it appears that he's starting to get hot at the right time.
After draining 14 three pointers over the last three games, it's possible that Ryan can set a new career-high for made threes in a single-season. His most came a season ago at Notre Dame when he connected on 63 triples.
You could never have enough scoring options, as Ryan has proven he can knock down some big shots when needed. If the Tar Heels aspire to go on a deep postseason run, they are going to need Cormac Ryan to continue his hot shooting, as it is a crucial element to the team's offensive attack.
