3 UNC football positions that will be a battle during spring practice
The position battle that will draw the most headlines this spring will be at the quarterback position.
With Drake Maye departing for the NFL Draft, it appears that it will be a two-player race for the starting gig.
Conner Harrell returns after starting in the UNC football program's bowl game, as his speed and athleticism are things that definitely stand out when you watch him compete. Although there isn't much in-game experience, Harrell does have the advantage of having a good understanding of the offensive system, given he's been with the program for two seasons now.
In an effort to add talent to this position group, Mack Brown and his staff brought in Texas A&M transfer Max Johnson to compete for the job. Johnson, a lefty, is set to compete for his third team, as he started his career at LSU before heading to Texas A&M. While at LSU, Johnson was the team's starter during the 2021 season, finishing the year with 2,815 yards and 27 touchdowns.
As spring practices kick off, this will be the storyline to watch, as we'll wait and see who Mack Brown decides to hand the reins to the offense to heading into the 2024 season.
