Cedric Gray and Power Echols essentially played every snap for the UNC football program's defense in 2023.

Gray, who will not play as he will enter the 2024 NFL Draft, leaves a big void to fill, as Gene Chizik and the Tar Heels have elected to slide Echols over to Gray's "Mike" position. This move means that freshman Amare Campbell will take over at the "Will" spot, as he'll also see his first significant opportunity to play at the collegiate level.

We're heard a lot about Campbell's potential, but didn't see it fully due to the veteran presence at the linebacker position. The duo of Echols and Campbell is one that we could expect to see a lot of in 2024, as the expectation is that Campbell will take over at the "Mike" spot once Echols' collegiate career comes to a close.

Filling Gray's void won't be easy: replacing an All-American caliber linebacker doesn't just happen overnight. However, the Tar Heels have talent at this position, as this will be the first opportunity to see what this duo is capable of in this new-look linebacker front.
