The Los Angeles Chargers haven't had much luck when it comes to health for its top running back options.

First, Najee Harris, who was signed as a free agent during the offseason, suffered a season-ending ruptured Achilles.

Two weeks later, former UNC football star Omarion Hampton suffered an ankle injury, one that will unfortunately land him on Injured Reserve.

Hampton appeared to sustain the injury on a fourth down play with 1:53 remaining in the third quarter of the Chargers' eventual loss to the Washington Commanders. The No. 22 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft tripped over Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu, leading to him limping once he returned to his feet.

That was the last we saw of Hampton in the game, as the former Tar Heel was seen leaving the stadium with a walking boot on his left foot.

Hampton has wasted no time making an impact in the NFL. Through the early portion of his rookie season, Hampton has rushed for 314 yards and two scores while also playing a factor in the passing game, recording 20 receptions for an additional 136 yards.

Since Week 3, Hampton has taken it up a notch. He ranked third among all NFL players in yards from scrimmage since that time, trailing only Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams and Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers.

Pretty impressive company to be included with.

While this setback isn't ideal, the good news is that the injury doesn't appear to be season-ending. Hampton will take the next four weeks to heal and recuperate, hopefully leading to his return to the field shortly after.
