Inside Carolina was the first to report that four-star cornerback Kenton Dopson is set to visit Chapel Hill this weekend. The Miami commit is currently a member of the Class of 2027, but his recruitment process is trending toward him re-classifying to join the 2026 class.
North Carolina extended an offer Dopson's way in the early part of August. Even though he's been committed to the Hurricanes since mid-March, the four-star talent has quickly engaged with the Tar Heels, leading many to believe that a flipped commitment is inevitable.
For Bill Belichick and the UNC football program, this would be yet another huge addition to join the 2026 recruiting class.
Belichick and the Tar Heels have done wonders already with the 2026 class, currently holding 37 commitments. This haul ranks as a top-20 recruiting class nationally.
Dopson's recruitment has continued even past his commitment to Miami, as he currently holds offers from the likes of as Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and USC. At the moment, the UNC football program appears poised to be the school that ends up flipping his commitment, as this weekend could ultimately be the deciding factor in that ultimate decision.
This is a major recruitment to watch for UNC football fans, as another four-star talent could be en route to join an already loaded recruiting class in Chapel Hill.
