As soon as Viliami Moala became available, Bill Belichick and the UNC football program wasted no time recruiting him.
A former Oregon commit, the 6-foot-4, 340-pounder elected to reopen his recruitment to explore other opportunities. North Carolina was linked to him right away, as the early smoke turned out to be true.
Viliami Moala will be a Tar Heel.

Moala made it official with the above social media post, indicating that he is the latest 2026 prospect to join Belichick's first recruiting class at North Carolina. The UNC football program continues to make noise on the recruiting trail, as over 30 student-athletes are currently part of their top-20 ranked class.
A two-way player at the high school level, Moala has the ability to play on either side of the football once he makes his way to college next year. It seems like North Carolina brought him in to be a force on the team's defensive line for years to come, as his size and athleticism will make it difficult for opposing offenses to keep him out of the backfield.
Belichick and the Tar Heels new-look staff continue to prove the doubters wrong. While some speculated whether the six-time Super Bowl champion would be able to effectively recruit at the collegiate level, he's done quite the job of silencing that doubt over the first few months of his tenure.
With any new head coach, that first recruiting class is always an important one. Belichick seems to have already hit a home run with his first recruiting class at North Carolina, and the scary thing is, there's still room to add more before it officially comes to a close.
