North Carolina defends its home court by defeating Virginia Tech

The Tar Heels have been outstanding at home this season, as Saturday night was yet another example of that.

Powered by another outstanding performance from Henri Veesaar, the UNC basketball program defeated Virginia Tech on Saturday night in Chapel Hill.

While the game was a oddly-timed start for a Saturday game (8:30 PM EST), the Tar Heels didn't let the time affect them one bit. After heading into the locker room tied at the half, the Tar Heels took over the second half, pulling away to secure yet another victory at the Dean Smith Center.

Veesaar continues to shine

Veesaar was outstanding once again, tying his career-high with 26 points. After recording five total rebounds over his previous three games, the junior big man was much more active on the glass, adding seven rebounds to his final stat line.

Seth Trimble is flying high

Playing in his second to last home game, Trimble put together yet another impressive performance.

After his 30-point outing against Louisville, the senior guard followed it up with a 20-point outing against the Hokies. In typical Trimble fashion, he gave us yet another highlight-reel slam that we'll replay for quite some time.

Key bench production

North Carolina didn't get much from three of its starters (Derek Dixon, Luka Bogavac and Jarin Stevenson). The trio combined for 11 points and struggled shooting the basketball, but fortunately, the bench came to play.

Jonathan Powell scored 15 points while connecting on four three-pointers, adding five rebounds in his 21 minutes of action. Zayden High continues to play at a high level, scoring 12 points while knocking down all eight of his attempts from the free-throw line.

Kyan Evans only scored five points in 24 minutes of work, but he was clearly the better option at the point guard position in this game.

What's next?

Senior night.

Can you believe it's here already...

The UNC basketball program will honor its two seniors, Seth Trimble and Elijah Davis, prior to Tuesday night's home finale against Clemson. The Tar Heels not only want to keep pushing toward a double-bye in the upcoming ACC Tournament, but have the chance to make history if they secure a win on Tuesday night.
