It's a tremendous accomplishment when you have a player selected in the first round of their respective sport's draft.
What's even more impressive when you're one of a handful of schools to have first round picks in two major sports.

With Drake Powell's selection in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, North Carolina joined the exclusive list of schools to have first round selections in both football and basketball this given calendar year.
As we all know, Omarion Hampton was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2025 NFL Draft. What's even more ironic is that both Hampton and Powell were selected with the No. 22 overall pick in their respective drafts!
While there was plenty of hate on social media for the UNC basketball program's lack of first round talent as of late, North Carolina got some bragging rights with this stat. Only five other schools: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State, and Texas, can say that they've accomplished this feat.
I don't see Duke or NC State on this list... maybe I'm missing something!
Of course, Tar Heel fans hope that Bill Belichick and Hubert Davis can continue churning out first round talents, as it would be extremely nice to see this become more common for the University of North Carolina.
Given we had to wait four years to get a first round selection on the basketball side of things, it's certain that fans are simply happy that Drake Powell ended the drought (and that Caleb Wilson can become the next first rounder a year from now!).
