Nick Saban is very familiar with Bill Belichick.
In fact, the two legendary coaches have a lot in common, given that both have spearheaded two of the best dynasties the sport of football has produced at any level.
Ahead of Belichick's debut as the head coach of the UNC football program, Saban provided some feedback on ESPN's College GameDay. While the former national champion head coach believes it will take some time to get things going, he believes Belichick's ability to develop players will guide the program toward success.
"Bill's strength as a coach, to me, is developing players."

"Well, I think it's gonna work, but I think, you know, 70 new players on the roster. Wow. And you know, Bill's strength as a coach to me is developing players. You know, how you engage with them, how you inspire 'em, how you influence 'em, how you impact their development to improve. And it's very difficult to do when you have that many new players in this short of time to get ready for a season and get ready for a game he's going to have success at at North Carolina."
Saban understands how difficult it is to develop talent in general, let alone a roster that features 70 newcomers. With a short amount of time to work with, Saban was essentially reminding fans of the UNC football program that Rome wasn't built in a day, as it will take time for the program to reach the goals it aspires to reach during the Bill Belichick era.
There are plenty of people who don't believe that Belichick will succeed at the college ranks. Still, his peers, especially Saban, have complete faith in him, believing that he will help turn the UNC football program into a national contender during his tenure as head coach in Chapel Hill.
