This is what North Carolina fans have been hoping for. On Tuesday morning, after what felt like years of waiting, UNC and Hubert Davis got the news that they wanted oh so badly. That's right, 5-star guard Dylan Mingo is Chapel Hill-bound, as he officially committed to the Tar Heels.

Boom. Mingo was down to North Carolina, Penn State, Washington and Baylor, but in the end, he knew in his heart that he belongs in the ACC. While breaking down his decision with Stephen A. Smith and Co. on ESPN's First Take, Mingo said the family feel he got on his visit was a big reason why he committed. However, he also made it clear that UNC's upset of Duke also stood out to him.

"I chose North Carolina for North Carolina itself, but definitely seeing everything after they won the game (against Duke), it had a huge impact on my decision," Mingo said. "It was just so joyful - the players looked so joyful. If you heard Seth Trimble and Caleb Wilson speak after, they talked about how much they loved their community and loved North Carolina, like they would do anything for it. That was pretty fun to see."

Oh come on, that just makes Mingo's decision even better. He made it clear that he was watching the UNC vs. Duke showdown and he loved nothing more than seeing Trimble bury his huge 3-pointer to give the home team the win.

UNC fans as a whole were over the moon following that win, which Mingo took notice of as well. His comments to Smith are pretty dang great if you ask us, as Mingo is going to be ready to live up to the hype vs. Duke and any other team he faces come next season.

This is an incredible get for Davis and it's one that seemed unlikely earlier this winter. At one point, Baylor was the favorite to sign Mingo, which had people in Chapel Hill quite nervous. Instead, the Tar Heels never stopped going all-in for him, with the program's efforts paying off. Mingo joins fellow 5-star playmaker Maximo Adams as members of the 2026 class, while Kenny Smith's son Malloy Smith is on commit watch as well.
