No Caleb Wilson, no problem for North Carolina? That turned out to be the case for the Tar Heels, as UNC barely broke a sweat in taking down Pitt in Chapel Hill on Saturday afternoon. However, jaws dropped right before tip-off when news broke that Henri Veesaar was also going to miss the action.
Jay Williams just said what everyone is thinking on UNC missing Caleb Wilson
It was revealed that Veesaar has been dealing with a lower-body injury, while he's also been sick following the mid-week trip to Coral Gables to take on Miami. Veesaar was spotted going through stretches with the team, but it was clear he was in discomfort/didn't look like himself. Thankfully, Davis sat him out for this one, with UNC not needing him in the 79-65 victory over the Panthers.

Hubert Davis and UNC made the right call in sitting Henri Veesaar vs. Pitt
Had Veesaar played against Pitt, which entered this game 9-16 overall and 2-10 in ACC play, there would have been a ton of frustrated UNC supporters. However, it indeed looks like Davis learned a tough lesson after Wilson suffered his serious hand injury.
In the loss to Miami on Tuesday, Wilson got banged up, went back to the locker room and was originally diagnosed with a sprained wrist. However, things ended up being way worse than that, with additional screening showing the fracture.
If we could go back in time, Davis obviously would have had Wilson sit out the rest of the game vs. Miami instead of risking further injury. Hindsight of course is 20-20, but Davis and his staff knew they simply could not risk things with Veesaar on Saturday at the Smith Center.
While there was a ton of concern for North Carolina in this one without two of its best players, the Tar Heels flexed their muscles and got the job done in convincing fashion. Zayden High received his first start and thanked Davis by scoring a career-high 15 points.
Seth Trimble, Jarin Stevenson and Luka Bogavac were also stellar, chipping in with 19 points, 19 points and 15 points, respectively. Next up for the Tar Heels will be Tuesday night matchup against NC State in a meeting that people have had circled on their calendars for quite some time. We know Wilson won't be in action for that one, but the hope is Veesaar will be ready to return in time to go up against the Wolfpack in Raleigh.
