The world of the college transfer portal: where anything can happen!
Last offseason, Tar Heel fans were absolutely stunned when Ven-Allen Lubin committed to NC State, a move that felt like a transfer portal crime.
Lubin had a decent year, and NC State did, well, ya know, NC State-type things, as the "championship" of their season was when they defeated North Carolina, a Tar Heels team that didn't have Caleb Wilson or Henri Veesaar.
Even though both programs will have a new head coach this season, Michael Malone has the chance to not only bring in a talented transfer prospect, but but can also stick it to the Wolfpack in the process.

The 6-6 freshman averaged 9.2 points per game in ACC play, shooting over 37% from three. Scored 19 points against North Carolina earlier this season and is a former top-20 recruit.

In a shocking development, Joe Tipton of On3 revealed that former NC State guard Matt Able is focusing on seven programs in his recruitment. Keep in mind that the rising sophomore is also testing the NBA Draft process as well.
One of the teams still in the mix is North Carolina, a tidbit of news that no one saw coming!
Able has narrowed his recruitment to the following programs: UNC, Baylor, Stanford, UCLA, Miami, Virginia, and UConn.
A 6-foot-6 rising sophomore, Able possesses a skill set that is absolutely coveted by coaches around the country. He is an elite three-point shooter, as he put that well on display during his lone season in Raleigh, a year in which he connected on over 37% of his shots from beyond the arc.
With Luka Bogavac and Derek Dixon departing Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels need to add some shooting, something that Able is more than capable of bringing to the table.
Now, it's not a guarantee that UNC and Able are a match this offseason. In fact, it's still rather surprising, given that North Carolina hasn't been mentioned previously in Able's recruitment. However, it's important to note that things change rapidly in the free agent world of college athletics, so this will be an interesting player to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
Just seeing how NC State fans would react if he committed to UNC would be epic enough, let alone adding a very good basketball player who can help the Tar Heels win games immediately. Sounds like a win-win to us!
