Michael Malone and UNC get some unwelcome news in their pursuit of five-star Jordan Page

Just a few weeks ago, UNC seemingly was in a great spot in five-star Jordan Page's recruitment.

An official visit to campus during alumni weekend appeared to go very well. In fact, momentum built that Page could ultimately return to his home state to play for the Tar Heels next season, but...

Another program has emerged as the favorite for Jordan Page

Just a week after his official visit to Chapel Hill, Page made the next stop on his recruitment tour, one that took him to Storrs to visit Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies.

That visit changed the direction of Page's recruitment.

Now, a very notable basketball analyst has placed a Crystal Ball prediction for Page in favor of the Huskies.

Travis Branham of 247Sports placed the prediction, listing it with a 7 grade. This tells us that Branham is rather confident with his prediction.

Now, a couple of things to consider here:

For starters, we all know things can change rapidly in the recruiting world. Just because a Crystal Ball prediction is placed doesn't mean it's guaranteed to happen. In the same token, it does show that there is belief things are moving along in Page's recruitment and are starting to favor UConn.

Additionally, Branham has been pretty accurate with his predictions, sitting just under 95% over the 367 he's placed.

If you're still hopeful that Page changes his mind, just note that there have been 19 times where Branham was wrong. This would be a great time to add his 20th wrong prediction to the list.

Recruiting is very tricky. One day you could have a strong hold on a player's recruitment, and the next day that could change. Without a doubt, Michael Malone and his staff will keep pushing until the final decision is made, because they won't give up on him just because the momentum seems to have shifted a bit.

If, by some chance, Page does commit to UConn, Malone and his staff already have a plan in place to pivot on the recruiting trail. North Carolina won't go down without a fight, but will make sure they do what's best for the program when it comes to bringing in the best potential talents available.

Sure, Hurley and UConn are very enticing to student-athletes for a variety of reasons. However, the lure of playing college basketball in his home state still might be appealing to Page, as that alone might just help the Tar Heels make one final push to sway his decision.
