Max Johnson's debut with the UNC football program last season certainly didn't go as planned.
The transfer quarterback suffered a gruesome injury in the third quarter of the Tar Heels' season opener against Minnesota, one that would force him to miss the remainder of the 2024 season.
Months after suffering a broken femur, Johnson is back on the field, getting some summer work in as he works toward an eventual return to the field.
In the video above, Johnson was getting in some work throwing the football and putting in some reps in the gym. This is a great step in the right direction, as Johnson appears to be moving well, considering the horrible injury he endured just a few months back.
Of course, it still hasn't been determined just how far he currently is in his rehab process. In fact, we still aren't certain that he will be available at all during the 2025 season. While there are still plenty of questions left to be answered, Johnson is pushing as hard as he can to get to full strength, as he envisions being a factor in the Tar Heels offense at some point in the near future.
When he's ready to return, Johnson's presence will add another element to the UNC football program's quarterback competition. It will certainly be a good problem to have, as Johnson is a quality signal-caller who could definitely challenge for playing time at the position when he's ready to go.
