Max Johnson's debut with the UNC football program didn't go nearly as planned.
Earning the starting quarterback job out of training camp, Johnson made his Tar Heel debut in the team's 2024 season opener at Minnesota. Unfortunately, Johnson suffered a gruesome leg injury, one that ended his season and put his career in jeopardy.
Not only was there doubt that he would be able to return to the football field, there were questions on whether he would lose his right leg due to the injury. Five surgeries and a ton of rehab later, and Johnson is back on the field competing not even a full year since the injury occurred.
If that doesn't scream "Comeback Player of the Year," we're not sure what will!
Ahead of the 2025 season, Johnson has been named to the College Sports Communicators Comeback Player of the Year Watch List.

Don't be fooled: Johnson isn't just aiming to be back on the field practicing and competing. The Athens, Georgia native has every intention of regaining his spot as QB1 for the UNC football program, working to find an edge over the likes of Gio Lopez and Bryce Baker in this year's competition.
Without a doubt, Max Johnson is simply resilient, as he will do everything in his power to make sure that he completes the comeback progress, ultimately in an effort to help the UNC football program win games throughout the 2025 season.
