Mack Brown has no problem pointing out the ways that the University of North Carolina has helped Bill Belichick during his early run as the UNC football program's head coach.
On a radio appearance with Dusty Dvoracek and Danny Kanell on SiriusXM College Sports Radio, Brown provided insight on some of the major changes the university has made over the last few months, specifically in terms of funding the program while also lowering the academic standards to help recruiting efforts.
Here's part of what Brown had to say while speaking on the topic:
“As far as North Carolina and Bill Belichick now, he’s arguably the best coach ever. They’ve committed money to it, they’ve helped him with academics. They’ve lowered those standards some. So there’s absolutely no reason they shouldn’t be successful."
While some might take it as Brown being sour that the program didn't do this for him when he was in charge, he does go on to say that he's proud of Belichick and believes the program will do well during his tenure. He also goes on to admit that it was time for him to move on, comparing his departure from Chapel Hill to a divorce.
Of course, the main headline here will be those spinning this to seem like Brown was taking shots at the program. Brown was stating what we've all already kind of knew: the university has taken drastic steps in an effort to get the UNC football program on a level of national excellence.
The changes that have already come to Chapel Hill have clearly indicated that the goal is to make the UNC football program an annual College Football Playoff contender.
