Caleb Wilson will be a problem
I led the BYU Lessons Learned piece with a tribute to the talent and potential of Caleb Wilson, but I have to do it again. This freshman is going to be a beast before leaving Chapel Hill in the spring for NBA riches. And who can blame him?
He led all scorers (by a healthy margin!) with 23 points on an efficient 9 of 13 shooting from the floor and was a perfect 5 for 5 from the line. He secured another double-double with 10 rebounds and generally played like Sandy Ravage against ill-equipped soldiers in a video game setting (aka- dominant). Also, Wilson had two assists to just one turnover.
About that turnover. Just like against BYU, Wilson skyd for a rebound and took off upcourt, showing good handles while covering a tremendous amount of ground. But when he broke down to make his offensive move, his handle got a little loose, and he quickly ran into trouble, getting whistled for a travel. That's the second time in two games this has happened.
Taking a rebound coast to coast is a tremendous ability, as you can attack an unsettled defense, but if he doesn't have the redzone offense to get the ball over the line, he should look to pass the ball to a guard, relocate to the post, and then dominate as he's shown he can. Like this:
