Leaky Black’s NBA journey is taking him out west.
The former UNC basketball fan favorite has earned another chance to prove he belongs in the NBA, signing a training camp deal with the Sacramento Kings as he looks to earn a spot in the organization.

When the Washington Wizards released him in July, many Tar Heel fans wondered what was next for the now 27-year-old. A Concord, North Carolina native, Black appeared in 15 games (9 starts) last season for the Wizards, averaging 7.1 points and five rebounds per game over an average of 29 minutes per contest.
Black has played 116 professional games, 75 of which have been in the G League. However, the former Tar Heel has NBA experience and offers key versatility that teams look for as they build their roster.
Fans of the UNC basketball program saw Black as a "Swiss Army Knife" in Chapel Hill, doing a little bit of everything to help win. While he isn't a score-first player, he is an elite defender who can cover multiple positions, a solid facilitator, and an athletic presence who can stuff the stat sheet on any given night.
Signing with Sacramento could be a great landing spot for Black as he aims to make an NBA roster. Coming off a 22-60 season, the Kings are still not ready to compete in the Western Conference, but are looking to build a roster of players who can help them take that next step toward rebuilding. Although the NBA tends to prefer younger talents, you always need to have some veterans around who set the tone for how things are done, and Black definitely can be one of those guys in whatever role the Kings need him to fulfill.
With a strong showing during training camp, Black could make a strong case for a roster spot with the Kings. Let's also remember that playing time in preseason games is an audition for other teams, giving players like Black a chance to show what they can do.
The ball is now in Leaky Black's court (literally). Can he take advantage of the opportunity that is right in front of him?
