Lanie Grant has been outstanding for the UNC women's basketball program and has earned some accolades to show for her recent play.

Grant has been named the Tamika Catchings Freshman of the Week, awarded weekly by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). The freshman played a huge role in leading the UNC women's basketball program to two victories to wrap up non-conference play.

In the Jumpman Invitational against Florida, Grant poured in 13 points and recorded two steals, making a handful of plays on the defensive side of the ball that don't appear in the stat line. To follow a strong outing against the Gators, Grant was even better against Norfolk State, draining four three-pointers while leading the team with 15 points in the blowout victory.

As one of the youngest players in the country, you would expect that Grant would need some time to adjust to the college game. Let's face it: she still should be a senior in high school!

However, Grant has made the transition appear seamless, as she's quickly emerged as a key contributor for this year's team. It's safe to say that Grant, and the UNC women's basketball program's coaching staff, were right in thinking that Grant could be an immediate impact player, even as a re-classified freshman.

Grant and the UNC women's basketball program have a few days off to celebrate the holidays before they head to Coral Gables, Florida to take on the Miami Hurricanes on December 29.
