Kirk Herbstreit adds to UNC's embarrassing season opener with his hot mic moment

The UNC football program's season opening performance was embarrassing in itself.

Kirk Herbstreit found a way to make it worse with a hot mic moment to start the fourth quarter.

Trailing 41-14 leading into the final 15 minutes of play, Herbstreit's mic was on as the broadcast was just about ready to return. Before Rece Davis made his opening remarks following the commercial break, Herbstreit was caught uttering a short sentence describing the UNC football program.

"They're bad."

You can hear Herbstreit laughing following the remark, as it's very likely that he is just as surprised as we all are with how bad the Tar Heels played in Bill Belichick's debut. While the on-field product was awful to watch to begin with, Herbstreit's hot mic slip up just added salt to an already wide-open wound for Tar Heels fans.
