"You'd better come ready."
Joel Berry knows the expectations that come with being part of the UNC basketball program in any capacity. Regardless of one's role within the program, the expectations are at a sky-high level, as the mentality every single year is national championship or bust.
On the ACC Network's Basketball Podcast, Berry laid out the standard for whoever ends up taking over as UNC's next men's basketball coach.

Berry discusses the Carolina family
Some people don't really understand what the Carolina family truly is, but Berry has a great sense of what it means and put it into words:
"The Carolina family is about the people who have who have created the history that's in the Smith Center that has created the brand. The brand itself is only because of the people who have been in and out of that program and have made it to what it was whether it be player or coach the expectations is the expectations.
You gotta come in and you gotta be able to win. And that's something that I pretty much wrote down is, you better come ready. Whatever coach it is, whoever it may be the brand, the boosters. This time it doesn't care about your resume that gets you in the door. What you have to do is you have to come in consistently and be able to compete."
Latest reports indicate UNC has its coaching wishlist in the wrong order
Of course, the individual accolades are always praised by Tar Heel faithful, but Berry made sure to note that individual milestones aren't what matter most in Chapel Hill.
"You look at the other side, there's jerseys and names up there, but the one that really matters the most. Is the other side, and that's the national championship banner. So that's the expectation. It has always been the expectation."
Championship or nothing
Whoever ends up getting the job at North Carolina will obviously know the standards and expectations that are in place.
UNC's dream Hubert Davis replacement already tells Bubba Cunningham no thanks
While it's a very high standard to strive for, whoever that individual is who takes over at the helm will certainly be up for the challenge. If they need a reminder of how important winning is in Chapel Hill, they may want to spend some time with Berry and other alumni who have hung banners in the historic Dean Smith Center rafters.
