Joel Berry is just as frustrated with the current state of UNC basketball as we all are.

While appearing on the ACC Network's "Nothing But Net," the former national champion was asked about his beloved program. Berry, like many of us, is looking for one thing that certainly has been lacking during the Hubert Davis era.

Consistency.

Here's the full quote from Berry regarding the current state of the UNC basketball program:

“I don't like going on rollercoasters. I get sick. I don't feel good. That's where the Carolina fans are because you go from Coach Davis' first year national championship, you come back the next year number one preseason and you missed the tournament then you come back the next year coach of the year you got ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis now we're in this year where you're sitting at six and five and the competitiveness isn't there the roster construction isn't there and yes they missed out in the portal because you lose Armando Bacot and you have Jalen Washington who really didn't play much because Armando took up and ate up all the minutes. And then you bring in Cade Tyson his play hasn't fared out. And now you're having to throw out all these different lineups, it's rightfully so the fans do have a right to be frustrated with what's going on because from each year is inconsistent, I just think for this year it's more of the roster construction than anything. You know, when the portal opens up now the fans are expecting what can we do as a Carolina brand to go out and bring in the best players but not even just the best players the right players for the program.

Coach Davis is not short of bringing in the recruits. You got Ian Jackson you have Drake Powell that come in number seven and number 14 in the country. But it's the way it looks is where the problem is. I just think the fans right now are not used to this brand of basketball for Carolina at this point, and they've been on this roller coaster, and the one thing they want to just see is some consistency, and rightfully so, you want to see consistency from a program where the standard is a national championship. The standard is getting to the tournament, and most importantly the standard is going out and competing for what's on the front of that jersey and you're just not seeing that right now and that is the problem.”

There are a lot of elements to be considered when thinking about the struggles of the UNC basketball program, and quite frankly, Joel Berry hits the nail on the head with everything he had to say. Fans are frustrated (and as Berry pointed out, rightly should be) given what we've seen not only from this team but from some disappointing squads over the previous few seasons.

At some point, someone has to find a way to bring back the consistent brand of Carolina basketball that we all know and love.

It seems like there are quite a few steps that need to be taken to make that eventually happen.
