Jimbo Fisher is enjoying life as a college football analyst for the ACC Network.
Fisher, who most notably served as the head coach of Florida State (2010-2017) and Texas A&M (2018-2023) has plenty of experience in the sport of college football. Now, he's providing his wisdom to the viewers of the ACC Network, but some might be questioning one of his boldest takes regarding this year's UNC football squad.
With the 2026 ACC Kickoff event underway, Fisher and the ACC Huddle team have been discussing the different programs that the conference has to offer. When the topic of the Tar Heels came along, Fisher provided a take that seems like a lofty level of expectations heading into year two of the Bill Belichick era.

In case you missed what Fisher had to say, the former head coach believes that the expectation for Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels should be putting together a winning season while appearing in a bowl game.
"It's gotta be a winning season and a bowl game," Fisher said of the expectations surrounding UNC football this upcoming season. "They've gotta get to that point and have a, and have a good season. I think Bobby (Petrino) will make a difference for them. I definitely do. Bobby's a very good play caller. He has great knowledge of the offense."
Sure, Petrino's arrival in Chapel Hill will hopefully help fix the major woes of the Tar Heels' offense from last season. However, there are still plenty of question marks with this team, especially at the quarterback position, as Fisher's high hopes for UNC might be focused on coaching alone.
Let's face it: after an abysmal season in which North Carolina went 4-8 and looked atrocious for most of the season, it's kind of difficult to think they are going to just immediately flip a switch this season.
Bill Belichick and UNC successfully changed a former Cincinnati WR commit's mind
To make Fisher's statement even crazier, he doesn't just expect them to make a one-to-two win jump: this guy is projecting the Tar Heels to essentially double their win total from a season ago!
"I expect them to be in a bowl game and win seven to eight games."
Sure, we love Fisher's optimism and hope he's right. However, how could one be so positive about a team that is coming off a horrible season and really didn't make many drastic improvements to the roster?
Again, we all would love for Fisher to be right in this scenario, especially because the expectations surrounding this team are nowhere near the level they were heading into the 2025 season. In reality, Tar Heel fans are simply hoping to see signs of improvement and growth, taking the next step in the rebuilding process for Belichick and his staff.
Without a doubt, every UNC fan would sign up for Fisher's prediction if we could claim it at this current moment. No one will complain if the Tar Heels pull together a 7-to-8 win season and play in a competitive bowl game to wrap up the season.
While we all want to dream big like Fisher, we learned last year not to get our hopes up prematurely.
