The NFL preseason kicks off this week, with the Hall of Fame Game set to be played on Thursday night.

This game annually kicks off the festivities of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's "Enshrinement Week." In this edition, the Detroit Lions will take on the Los Angeles Chargers at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

For Chargers fans who are anxious to see former UNC football star Omarion Hampton in live action, we have good news:

Jim Harbaugh confirmed that Hampton is confirmed to be playing in the Hall of Fame game.

While NFL teams typically ease their key players back into action, the Chargers are wasting no time getting their first-round pick some preseason work. Harbaugh didn't say how much Hampton would see the field, but you'd have to think that his snaps will be limited in the team's preseason opener.

Hampton left North Carolina as arguably the best running back to ever wear the Carolina blue uniform. In his final season as a Tar Heel, Hampton was a legitimate workhorse for the UNC football program's offense, finishing the season with 1,660 rushing yards to go along with 373 receiving yards. His 1,660 rushing yards rank as the second-most in a single season by a Tar Heel, as he only trails Don McCauley by 60 yards on the list (a record he would most likely have blown by if he played in the bowl game).

It's safe to say that the Chargers got themselves a great one, as fans are closing in on seeing this special talent officially take the field for their team. Just wait till ya'll see what UNC football fans got to witness over the last three seasons: absolute greatness.
