The first offensive drive didn't go as planned for North Carolina on Saturday afternoon, but the second sure reaped benefits.
After Greg Smith III recorded an interception to halt East Tennessee State's first offensive drive, the Tar Heels responded by capitalizing on the turnover.
On second down, Billy Edwards Jr. connected with tight end Jelani Thurman for the 24-yard touchdown. This score marks the first at Kenan Stadium this season, kicking off the 100th season of the historic venue in style.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Thurman is the first touchdown scorer at home this season, especially following his outstanding debut with the program two weeks prior in Ireland. The former Ohio State Buckeye hauled in 4 receptions for 94 yards in the season-opening victory over TCU, setting the tone for what should be a very productive season in Chapel Hill for the redshirt junior tight end.
