We're starting off the new year with some BOLD predictions!
Former NFL standout Jason McCourty, who spent three seasons with the New England Patriots during his career, has some high expectations for his former coach, Bill Belichick, in his first season as the leader of the UNC football program.
McCourty, whose twin brother, Devin, spent his entire career in New England, believes Belichick and the Tar Heels are College Football Playoff bound... in year one of Belichick's tenure.
"I want mine (prediction) to be bold. I want something special to happen in 2025. Bill Belichick will lead UNC to the College Football Playoff."
McCourty elaborated on why he believes this could happen, citing how the Tar Heels are going above-and-beyond to acquire the top available talent (especially in the transfer portal). He made note of the Instagram post that Belichick created, one that encouraged student-athletes to direct message (or as the kids say, DM) him if they are interested in playing for the UNC football program.
"Bill Belichick, Playoffs, those two words just go together!"
McCourty experienced a lot during his 13-year career, but it wasn't until he arrived in New England that he was finally able to capture a Super Bowl title, along side his brother, under the direction of Belichick.
When it comes to making statements like the one above, Jason McCourty is a very good reference for Bill Belichick.
Now, we'll have to wait and see if McCourty's prediction holds true, but it's safe to say that UNC football fans would absolutely love it if he ends up being right.
