It has finally arrived.

After months of anticipation, Selection Sunday is upon us. Needless to say, it will be a stressful day for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program as they await their destiny.

The topic of whether or not the Tar Heels deserve a spot in the field has been a popular one, especially given that North Carolina wasn't able to advance to the ACC Tournament finals. Leading up to the tournament, quite a few analysts believed that the UNC basketball program needed to win the entire ACC Tournament, which would've secured an automatic bid and taken the decision out of the committee's hand.

Unfortunately, that's not how it played out, as they will now wait to see if the committee believes that they belong.

While the record against Quad 1 teams is brutal, there's no denying that the Tar Heels were a much different squad down the stretch. Since February 15, the Tar Heels posted an 8-2 record, with both losses coming to the Duke Blue Devils, likely the No. 1 overall seed in the entire field (or close to it).

If recency bias has anything to do with the decision, North Carolina has made a very strong case for itself over the last few weeks.

Some fans just want this season to be over. Others (like myself) are hoping that the committee gives them a shot to compete.

Regardless of how it plays out, Sunday will be a very long day as we await the final decision on the UNC basketball program's destiny. In just a few hours, we'll know whether the Tar Heels are a tournament team or if their 2024-2025 season has come to a close (given that it's unlikely that they'll accept an invitation to compete in the NIT).

Hopefully, good news is on the horizon for the UNC basketball program.
