The expected outcome is now official: Seth Trimble will return to North Carolina for his senior season.

Trimble hinted toward his return with his latest Instagram post, but it was confirmed by Joe Tipton of On3, along with other industry sources, that Trimble decided to return to Chapel Hill for another season. The 6-foot-3 guard made his final decision after mulling over his options over the last couple of weeks.

Last offseason, Trimble briefly entered his name into the transfer portal, exploring all possible options. After doing some soul searching, Trimble realized that his heart belongs in Chapel Hill, leading him back to North Carolina.

While the speculation was that he would once again return, it's nice to have the official word that it's happening.

Trimble was the Tar Heels' third-leading scorer this season, a year that was his best statistical season thus far as a member of the UNC basketball program. He finished the season averaging 11.6 points, five rebounds, and 1.3 assists, all marks that set new career-highs. He shot 42.8% from the floor, including over 82% from the free-throw line.

With the departure of fellow backcourt mates RJ Davis (exhausted eligibility) along with Ian Jackson and Elliot Cadeau (via the transfer portal), North Carolina's backcourt depth has taken a massive hit. Trimble's return to Chapel Hill is big news, as Trimble is a quality guard who possesses strong leadership qualities, as he'll be called upon to be one of the leaders for next year's squad in what will be his final season as a Tar Heel.

There's still work to be done with regard to next year's roster, but Trimble's announcement now answers at least one of the major questions of the offseason. With Trimble set to return, the Tar Heels staff can look to add some veteran talent via the transfer portal to help compliment what Trimble brings to the table.

Seth Trimble IS a Tar Heel, and is staying right where he belongs.
