Will the UNC football program be searching for a new leader this offseason, or does Brown believe he still has plenty left in the tank to lead this team?

Even before the reported situation that occurred following the UNC football program's loss to James Madison, the speculation about how long Mack Brown would remain at the helm has seemed to be a rather consistent topic.

After an emotion-led discussion in the locker room (which really shouldn't have been leaked if you think about it), the rumors started to circulate even more, as many around the sport believe that this could be it for the now 73-year-old coach.

However, Brown doesn't seem ready to hang it up just yet.

Brown made an appearance on College Sports Today on SiriusXM, as the Tar Heels leader gave every indication that he still believes he has plenty left in the tank to offer his team.

"At Texas, I started planning on retiring, and it didn't work. I wasn't as good as what I was doing, and I was trying to make sure everybody was OK. I decided this time that I wasn't going to do that. I'm going to work as hard as I can every day of my life to do what I'm supposed to do. Right now, my role is to help these young people. You have to win games, or you can't stay; everybody knows that. That's the business, but my job right now, more importantly, is to make sure that these young people are OK and that they're growing mentally and emotionally. That was the promise I made to their parents. There will be a day I'll wake up and say, 'You know what? Somebody else needs to be doing this. I'm not excited about going recruiting.' I haven't gotten to that yet."

It's been an up-and-down season for the UNC football program, a year dictated by winning streaks. After winning their first three contests, the Tar Heels struggled mightily, dropping their next four games. They responded by winning three in a row, with their victory over Wake Forest on Saturday putting them in a position to be bowl-eligible for the sixth consecutive season.

While it's uncertain that Mack Brown will be the UNC football program's head coach a year from now, but if it's up to him, he seems to have every indication of maintaining his role as the team's head coach until he feels he doesn't want to do the job anymore.
