It's safe to say that UNC fans are waiting for some breaking news to come in through the portal. And with that, countless eyes are on Utah transfer Terrence Brown, who took a recent official visit to Chapel Hill, while also making his way to Kansas for a quick trip too.
3 UNC recruiting battles that could change everything for Michael Malone's first year
At one point, it felt like Carolina and Michael Malone were fading in this particular race, with plenty of worry coming in that Brown was ready to call Lawrence his new home. However, 247Sports' insider Travis Branham provided a new update and it seems like things are back to trending in UNC's favor.
“The one transfer to watch right now is Utah guard Terrence Brown,” Branham said. “The Tar Heels had him on for an official visit early this week and there’s been a lot of talk around the Tar Heels. He took a visit to Kansas and then the talk pivoted back to North Carolina. There’s been a lot of positive momentum, however Terrence Brown had a death in the family and things have been put on pause for the time being, but I still really like where North Carolina stands in that recruitment.”
UNC and Michael Malone are still making a serious push to land Terrence Brown
As Branham noted, the Brown family suffered a tragedy, as his aunt passed away. Brown confirmed that news on social media and he's understandably quite emotional about the news. Because of this, his recruitment has been put on hold and he's not going to be in a rush to commit - instead, he's going to spend time with his family during this difficult time.
This is surely something Malone and his staff are keeping in mind, as they're not going to force him to shut things down or anything. Again, Brown should take all the time he needs. It's up in the air if he's still going to take his Kentucky visit or not too. With that said, this is still a verbal pledge that the UNC faithful are hoping will arrive in the near future, as Brown could step in and make an immediate impact for Malone.
Last season, the sharpshooter averaged nearly 20 points per game, shooting 45.3 percent from the floor. He's of course not the only target Malone is going after, but Brown is most definitely considered a top priority for the Tar Heels. It's no question good news that UNC might be back in the driver's seat here.
