Needless to say, the Tar Heels did not get off to a great start in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals against Clemson.

UNC fans were not very pleased with the effort, especially on offense (particularly during the first 12 minutes of action).

If it makes you feel any better, Hubert Davis was livid about his team's shot selection as well.

Hubert Davis rips into his team over early mental lapses

At the under-eight media timeout, Davis was absolutely furious with his team. In his typical animated fashion, Davis laid into his players, a group that was settling for bad shot attempts.

"17 shots, 17 freaking shots, and nine of them threes!"

Davis said what we were all thinking

North Carolina struggled mightily on offense, a major reason they found themselves down 8 heading into the locker room. Other than Henri Veesaar (who made five of his six shots over the first 20 minutes for 11 total points), the rest of the team scored 20 points on 7-22 shooting.

That is NOT going to cut it.

Bricks

Of the 12 three-pointers that North Carolina chucked up in the first half, only three found the bottom of the net.

At what point do you realize shots aren't falling and try something different?

Given the way Veesaar was producing in the post, the emphasis should've been on him. When Clemson makes an adjustment to put more focus on the 7-footer, then more open shot opportunities could potentially come along.

Settling is never the answer, and Hubert Davis knows that. Hopefully, the Tar Heels' head coach reiterated the message in the locker room as UNC aims to storm back into this game.
