The UNC basketball program finished non-conference play with an impressive 12-1 record, but head coach Hubert Davis is far from satisfied.
Ahead of the Tar Heels' ACC opener on Tuesday night against Florida State, Davis met with the media to not only discuss the Seminoles, but to recap the non-conference slate and what it taught the UNC basketball program.
Needless to say, the Tar Heels' head coach is far from satisfied at this point in the season.
How can UNC continue to progress?
Davis was asked about how he thinks his team can still progress as conference play begins. He quickly focused on the defensive side of the floor, indicating a few areas he'd like to see his team improve upon moving forward.
“I think a number of things on both ends of the floor," Davis said. I mean, from a defensive standpoint, just better at defending without fouling, getting better at keeping teams out of the paint, better at boxing out, not allowing second chance opportunities, trying to find ways to create more turnovers. That’s something that we haven’t done a very good job of defensively.
Don't worry, Hubert Davis didn't forget the offensive aspect, noting how his team can also improve offensively in a variety of ways.
“Offensively, my hope is that we’ll shoot the ball better from three, also from the free-throw line, just better execution," Davis added. "The little details, setting screens, being in the right spots, taking care of the basketball, which we’ve done a really good job of late, but just continuing to grow and be consistent at those little things that I think make big things happen.”
It's often said that you don't want to be the best team in November and December: you want it all to click come March when it matters. While the UNC basketball program's start to the 2025-2026 season was very strong, this group has the potential to be even better, as the hope is that their best basketball is yet to come.
