The UNC football program has already added some linebacker depth, as Washington standout Khmori House previously committed to the Tar Heels.
With Amare Campbell's decision to return following his previous entry into the transfer portal, the Tar Heels have two quality linebackers to work with. However, with Power Echols' departure and Caleb LaVallee's decision to enter the transfer portal, North Carolina still could use some depth at this position.
Don't worry: Bill Belichick, Michael Lombardi and the UNC football program are working on it.
According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, USTA linebacker transfer Martavius French is planning on visiting North Carolina during his recruitment. Colorado, Miami, West Virginia and UCF were the other schools tabbed among the programs that French is expected to visit.
French entered the transfer portal on December 30 and immediately received a ton of interest. Plenty of schools believe the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker can be an immediate impact player among their defensive front, as he's proven throughout his collegiate career that he can be a force to be reckoned with.
The Memphis, Tennessee native appeared in 37 games at UTSA, 20 coming as a member of the starting unit. During the 2024 season, French recorded 80 tackles (including 17 for loss- leading the nation for inside linebackers). Overall, French recorded 163 tackles during his time at UTSA.
It makes sense why North Carolina (along with plenty of others) are heavily interested in French. Given his ability to find the ball and make plays in open field, he'll be a nice fit for whichever program he ends up transferring to, as the UNC football program would benefit if he decides to call Chapel Hill his next home.
