A decision on Henri Veesaar's future has officially been made, one that Tar Heels fans won't be to thrilled to hear.

Henri Veesaar to forgo his senior season, entering the NBA Draft

Matt Norlander was the first to report that Veesaar is fully focused on starting his career in the NBA, reporting that the international big man will be entering the 2026 NBA Draft. He will, according to Norlander's report, fully forgo his senior season of college eligiblilty.

This is a major blow for the UNC basketball program as they construct their 2026-2027 roster. The Tar Heels did everything they could to convince Veesaar to stay for another season, but unfortunately, Veesaar and his support team felt it's in his best interest to move on now.

Veesaar had a breakout junior season at North Carolina. He averaged 17 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, shooting a staggering 42% from three-point range. He became a focal point of the offense, especially with Caleb Wilson missing significant time due to injury, as his emergence was one of the major storylines that developed within the college basketball realm.

Unfortunately, we won't get to see what Veesaar could do with another year of full experience under his belt, as his departure leaves a major question mark in the front court for the Tar Heels heading into next season.

Now, Michael Malone and his staff will explore the potential options out there, as there likely isn't any players who could match his lost production single-handedly. Expect North Carolina to be heavily involved on the big man market in the transfer portal and also in international recruiting, as the quest now to find frontcourt talent is officially on.

Veesaar must've received feedback from NBA teams that he could be a first round pick in this year's draft. With that being his main goal, it makes sense for him to pursue his dream, but there's plenty of risk that comes along with his decision.

Hopefully, it ends up working out for both sides.
