This was definitely not expected!

It's not April Fools Day, right?

Fans of the UNC football program celebrated with joy when Gio Lopez elected to enter the transfer portal. After a miserable season in Chapel Hill, one where Lopez was one of the worst quarterbacks in all of college football, no one expected that Lopez would find a home with another Power Five program, especially not one that resides in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Well, at this point in the world of college athletics, anything is possible.

Gio Lopez commits to... Wake Forest

Not even 48 hours after entering the transfer portal, Lopez has found a home with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Was there some tampering involved here?! Even if there was, who cares!

Sure, Lopez did throw for 200 yards against his new team this past season, but his performance didn't light the world on fire. It's safe to say that Wake Forest might just be extremely desperate at the quarterback position, as this news seems to re-assure that notion.

Lopez was... not good as a Tar Heel

In what will officially be his lone season at North Carolina, Lopez completed 65.1% of his passes for 1,747 yards and 10 touchdowns. He added three more scores on the ground, showing some flashes of what he could do with his legs.

Unfortunately, it never clicked for Lopez in Chapel Hill, an era that we all will try to forget.

In case you are wondering...

No, Wake Forest is not on the UNC football program's schedule for the 2026 season. The only way the two teams would meet is if they match up in the ACC championship game in Charlotte.

Yeah, that ain't happening.

We laugh now...

Sure, this is comical now, given what we all brutally experienced this past season. However, in typical UNC fashion, Lopez will probably dominate at Wake Forest, leaving everyone questioning what went wrong in Chapel Hill.
