The UNC football program welcomes Richmond to Chapel Hill this weekend for some non-conference action at Kenan Stadium.

Both teams have had a similar early path to start the 2025 season. After losing their respective season openers, North Carolina and Richmond bounced back with victories in week two action.

Heading into this week, one team will drop under .500 once again, as both teams hope it's their opponent that ultimately faces that predicament.

Ahead of Saturday afternoon's kick-off, here's what you need to know about the Richmond Spiders:

2025 Season

Record: 1-1
Conference: 0-1
Home: 0-0
Away: 2-0
Neutral: 0-0

Last Week:

The Spiders edged out a 14-10 victory over Wofford for their first victory of the 2025 season. Quarterback Kyle Wickersham accounted for 231 total yards (153 passing, 78 rushing) in the victory.

Key Players

Kyle Wickersham

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound senior quarterback does it all for the Spiders, as he currently leads the team in passing and rushing. He is the focal point of Richmond's offensive attack, as North Carolina's defense will be heavily focused on him every time he's on the field.

Peyton Seelmann

The sophomore linebacker has made quite the impact through two games this season, recording a team-high 17 tackles to go along with a sack. When the Tar Heels have the ball, expect Seelmann to be heavily involved in the action, as he's been over his team's first two contests.

Carter Glassmyer

Richmond possesses a solid linebacking core, headlined by Seelmann and Carter Glassmyer.

The senior from Central York, Pennsylvania has also been heavily involved on the defensive end, having 12 tackles (which ranks second on the team).

Area of Strength

Richmond's defense is young and athletic, having a ton of depth especially at the linebacker and secondary positions.

Even with the offensive struggles, the defense has held its own early on in the season. This team is built on its defense, hoping to score enough points in low-scoring affairs to secure victories.

So far, the results have been good. The real question is: can the defense hold up moving forward?

Area of Weakness

Offense as a whole (other than Wickersham).

As their schedule starts to get tougher, Richmond is going to need someone other than Wickersham to step up and contribute.

While they've only scored three offensive touchdowns thus far, two are courtesy of Wickersham through the run game. Without another 100+ yard rusher or receiver currently on the roster, the Spiders need to find an offensive identity that isn't solely determined on one player.
