INSANE!

That's the only word that somewhat accurately describes the offensive performance that Gavin Gallaher and the UNC baseball program put together on Friday night at Pittsburgh.

The sophomore third baseman hit three, yes, three home runs, as the Diamond Heels combined for seven round trippers in a blowout victory over the Panthers on Friday night.

Gallaher tied the program record for the most home runs hit in a single game, becoming just the tenth Tar Heel ever to accomplish the feat. The last time a Diamond Heel hit three home runs in a single game came last season when Gallaher's former teammate, Parks Harber, clubbed three homers on March 30 against Wake Forest.

What's even more impressive is this: each of his home runs came in the fifth inning or later!

In the top half of the fifth inning, Gallaher blasted a solo homer over the left center field fence. His blast came right after a Luke Stevenson homer, marking the fifth time the Diamond Heels hit a ball out of the park in the game.

Fitting that the fifth home run of the game came from No. 5!

In the top of the seventh inning, Gallaher put another baseball into orbit, this time leaving the yard by hitting one over the wall in dead centerfield.

To wrap up a career night, Gallaher had one more long ball in him, depositing a three-run blast over the left-center field wall.

Overall, Gallaher finished the night going three for five at the plate. His six RBIs are also a new career-high, as this performance just goes to show how locked in he's been at the plate over the last couple of weeks.

Coming into the season, the expectations were extremely high for Gallaher, especially after his strong season a year ago as a true freshman. He has proven that the hype around him is justified, continuing to crush the baseball every opportunity he gets.

Scott Forbes and the Diamond Heels hope that Gallaher can stay hot through the remainder of the regular season and into postseason play. If the UNC baseball program continues to hit at this level, a deep run to Omaha could definitely be in play for this talented group.
