Last week, Gavin Gallaher was an absolute nightmare for opposing pitchers to face. In recognition of his stellar week on the diamond, the UNC baseball program's third baseman has been named the ACC Player of the Week.

In four games this past week, Gallaher posted a .600 batting average, hitting four home runs while driving in 11 runs. He also came around to score on seven separate occasions.

On Tuesday, Gallaher started the week strong, collecting three hits (two of which were home runs) to go along with five RBIS in the Diamond Heels' offensive slugfest victory over non-conference foe Elon.

When Wake Forest arrived to town for a weekend series, Gallaher remained locked in. In the series opener, the sophomore third baseman collected three hits and another home run, driving in three in the Diamond Heels' mercy-rule victory.

The second game of the series was essentially the same, as Gallaher had another three-hit outing. He homered for the third consecutive game, adding three more runs driven in to help guide North Carolina to another win in mercy-rule fashion.

Through 36 games, Gallaher has posted a .285 batting average. Although his average is down a bit, the power is certainly there, as he's already tied his home run total from a season ago.

Gallaher is an integral part of the UNC baseball program's offense, as the sophomore seems to be heating up at the right time. As North Carolina looks to close out the regular season in a strong fashion, they are going to need the guy who plays the hot corner to be at the top of his game.

Recent results seem to indicate that Gallaher is absolutely locked in and will continue being a nightmare for opposing pitching staffs to face.
