Indya Nivar is now looking for a new basketball home.
After being selected with the 28th pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, the former Tar Heel earned her spot on the Atlanta Dream's opening night roster. Unfortunately, Nivar was struggling to find consistent playing time, making her spot on the roster uncertain.
Just a few weeks before the league's annual All Star game, the Dream made a roster move that impact's Nivar moving forward.

Nivar appeared in 19 games, averaging just 3.2 minutes per contest. She logged double figure minutes in just two of those appearances, as her season-high (and career-high) came on June 24 when she played 11 minutes in the Dream's 77-66 loss to the Golden State Valkyries.
While this setback isn't ideal, Nivar gained some very valuable professional basketball experience over the last few months. The opportunity to compete with the Dream not only got her foot in the door but allowed her the chance to learn from some of the best players that the sport has to offer, wisdom that will carry with her wherever her next stop takes her.
Kayla McPherson’s coaching journey continues with an exciting new opportunity
Tar Heel fans know very well what Indya Nivar brings to a team. She's the ultimate competitor, being able to impact the game at a high level on both ends of the floor. Her defense and hustle are what stands out when you watch her compete, as she's always the first one to jump into the passing lane to steal the basketball or dive on a loose ball to get her team the possession back.
For now, Nivar will explore other opportunities, as there should be plenty of interest given what she's capable of doing on the basketball court. While her opportunity with the Dream was limited, Nivar has definitely improved her game because of it, and another franchise will take a chance on her and simply won't regret doing so.
