Matchups that pin former UNC basketball standouts against each other are always enticing, especially when both players have big-time performances for their respective teams!

In a matchup that we probably didn't expect to see, Theo Pinson and the Guaynabo Mets squared off against Brady Manek and the Ponce Lions. Ultimately, Pinson and the Mets prevailed, securing a seven-point victory on their home court.

Pinson put together an outstanding all-around effort, contributing 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists in the win. He also committed some Tar Heel on Tar Heel crime, knocking down this shot over Manek.

Although his team came up on the losing end, Manek had himself a strong performance as well. The former Tar Heel led his team with 26 points and 10 rebounds, as this pick-and-pop three-pointer will bring back some fond memories of his lone season in Chapel Hill.

Manek also got it done on the defensive side of the ball, recording this block that led to an easy transition basket for his team.

Pinson and Manek had very different paths to Chapel Hill, but both quickly became fan favorites during their stints with the UNC basketball program. Although they didn't get the opportunity to play together with the Tar Heels, it's cool to see them competing against each other at the professional level, as both guys are extremely competitive and play the game with a ton of energy and enthusiasm.

The Ponce Lions recently brought Manek in to help improve their three-point shooting, a move that is already paying dividends for them. Pinson came out of retirement on May 22 to join the Mets, as he's still got plenty left in the tank in terms of his playing career (even though he's found a niche as a broadcaster!).
