Sunday was already a great day to be a Tar Heel, as the UNC women's lacrosse team won their fourth national championship while the UNC baseball team won the ACC Tournament title in Durham.
You know what they say, "good things come in threes," as Griffin capped off an amazing day for the University of North Carolina by winning his first individual PGA Tour event, the Charles Schwab Challenge.
After winning a team event a month ago, the former Tar Heel added an individual tournament championship to his resume. He shot 1-over 71 to finish at 12-under 268, one shot ahead of Matt Schmid. The conditions weren't favorable for anyone, as it was a warm day that featured wind gusts of 30 MPH, but Griffin was somehow able to hold off Schmid for the victory.
If you love amazing stories, Griffin's is one that you'll truly be interested to hear. Taylor Vippolis provided the details below of how the former Tar Heel got to this point.
Ben Griffin is a remarkable story. Quit golf in 2021. Got a job as a mortgage loan officer. Had friends back him financially to get back into the sport. Past month, he has a top 10 Major finish and now two PGA tour wins. pic.twitter.com/pIfipLNf7y

This guy quit golf back in 2021, becoming a mortgage loan officer. With the help of his friends, he financially was able to get back into the sport, and now, is an individual champion of a PGA Tour event.
What a journey its been for Ben Griffin!
Fittingly, Griffin was awarded a 1992 Land Rover Defender for winning the Charles Schwab Challenge. It just so happens that the color of the car is in a shade of Carolina Blue.
It's almost like it was fate!
