Andrew Platek isn't that far removed from his playing days. However, it didn't take him long to land a high school varsity head coaching position.

After two seasons coaching at Niskayuna High School, the former UNC basketball standout is taking over as the head coach of the Shenendehowa boys basketball program. He will take over for the legendary Paul Yattaw, who retired following the conclusion of last season.

Andrew Platek is ready for the next step in his coaching career

Even though he's still very young, Platek has gained a ton of experience during his playing days.

Before we even get into his college career, it's important to note that Platek is very familiar with the conference he'll be coaching in. Before going the prep school route to complete his high school career, Platek starred at Guilderland High School for three seasons, averaging over 25 points per-game in his final year there.

As we all know, he then made his way to Chapel Hill to play for the legendary Roy Williams, and wrapped up his college career at Siena. While his playing days seem to be behind him, his coaching career appears to be just underway, as he'll now take over a program with a rich history of success that they hope he can help carry on for many years to come.

Sure, it will be bittersweet for Platek when he goes up against the school he played for and the school he previously coached at. However, the former Tar Heel is going to be all business when his team takes the floor, making sure he does everything he can to ensure his team's success against whoever their opponent is that given night.

Caleb Love earns himself another two-way contract but is heading to a new team

If you listen to Platek talk about the type of team he aims to coach, his philosophy resembles a lot of what North Carolina did during the Roy Williams era. This quote that he provided while talking about his new role will sound very familiar to Tar Heel fans:

“We want to play quickly. We want to get the ball up the court. We want to play in transition. We want to shoot a lot of shots. We want a lot of possessions. For that, we need to be good athletes,” said Platek. “You’re going to hear me say this a lot, but these kids need to be prepared for every situation. I think if we can play towards the kid’s talents and not box them into one type of offensive scheme or defensive scheme, and let them become better basketball players, that lets us do a lot of different things when we’re on the court.”

This is an outstanding opportunity for Platek to share his wisdom and experience with the future stars of the sport of basketball in his hometown area. Who knows: maybe this is just the start of what could be a long, successful coaching career for the former Tar Heel, who could add another branch to Williams' coaching tree before its all said and done.
