It didn't take long for Colorado State transfer Kyan Evans to realize how the culture is just different at North Carolina.
The UNC basketball program's new point guard joined Jones Angell and Adam Lucas on the Carolina Insider Podcast as the start of an introductory type of series to help fans get to know the newest members of the team.
With so many newcomers on this year's squad, it's fitting that this is being done, as fans will get some insight into not only learn more about the players, but also get to hear their opinions on their first summer in Chapel Hill.
An explosive scoring guard, Evans discussed his game in further detail and also dove into the reasons why he chose to come to North Carolina throughout his transfer portal recruitment process. While an instant connection to Hubert Davis (both for him and his family) was a major focal point, Evans also stressed how he wants to win at the biggest level, citing the UNC basketball program as the best place to accomplish that goal.
One of the most important things Evans had to say was with regard to what makes Carolina different from other programs or universities. As many have said before, Evans cited the culture, as he's quickly realized it's just different in Chapel Hill:
"I would just say the culture. For one, just the amount of people that come back. I tell everybody this: like the amount of people that come back and talk to us and want to see us succeed and say, "you know, whatever I can do to help, just reach out" and truly mean it. I think that's just different."
While we haven't seen as much turnover on a UNC basketball roster, essentially, ever, the newcomers seem to quickly be finding comfort in being part of the Carolina family. They are getting the support from alum who made names for themselves in Chapel Hill, looking to help guide the current team to the same type of success they saw during their playing days.
Let's face it: there's no place like Chapel Hill.
