The former UNC football star will take over as the cornerbacks coach for the New York Jets. He will join new head coach Aaron Glenn's staff, as the duo have experience coaching together from their time with the Detroit Lions.
After spending four seasons as the UNC football program's cornerbacks coach, Bly transitioned to coaching in the NFL. He worked a brief stint with the Lions before returning to the college ranks, joining Charlotte's staff as a defensive analyst for the 2024 season.
Now, Bly is heading back to the pros, as his resume and experience should help the Jets defense tremendously.
Bly put together a legendary career in Carolina Blue, recording 20 interceptions during his time in Chapel Hill. He recorded 11 interceptions as a redshirt freshman, helping the Tar Heels record their third-ever 10-win season in 1996.
From that point on, teams stayed away from throwing the football in his direction, but that didn't stop him from making big-time plays. He was the first two-time consensus first-team All-American in both North Carolina and ACC history, and the first in ACC history to be named as a first-team All-American by at least one major selector on three occasions. He is one of only five freshmen in FBS history to be named a consensus All-American. Bly's No. 31 jersey was honored by the UNC football program in 1999, and he was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
After his time at North Carolina came to a close, Bly played 11 seasons in the NFL, making two Pro Bowls while winning a Super Bowl title with the Rams.
With Sauce Gardner on the roster, Bly will have the opportunity to work with one of the best cornerbacks in the game at the current moment. While Gardner is elite at what he does, the rest of the unit faces uncertainty, as the hope is that Bly can help guide this group to be a lockdown unit overall.
